Ain't no rest for the wicked Money don't grow on trees
Jacksonville FL 7.20.2011
It'd been a long drive from North GA. The smells, the sensations, they were similar, but different all at the same time. Jerrock ran his fingertips through his hair, watching as the trees began to shade different colors. From hunters, to seagreen, he was aghast at exactly how different it could be just one state over from the torturous south. Though, could you really consider Jacksonville to be part of the south? It's tourist central! Jerrock smiled at this thought as well. Though, it was true, he still knew no one else.
"Whatever, I don't need anyone." Hmph. This would have to do.
He tied his hair back as he felt the warm wind tickling at his skin. It was definitely hotter here. He wondered if it snowed down here. "Guess I'll have to stay here long enough to see." The people seemed different. They didn't seem the type to be indignant of their own ignorance. It was almost as if they were open to the beliefs of one another, with respect even. Two birds were singing to one another when he came to a halt. Nature is so beautiful, he thought to himself. So why cannot humans be the same?
He wasn't really talking about the sight of nature, or humankind for that matter. But on a deeper level, humans subject themselves to the fear of the unknown. What they don't understand, they consider dangerous. And what is dangerous must be eliminated. He sighed. Lost in thought, he didn't really notice that a young man was speaking to him.
"Umm....are you okay, s-sir?" The gentleman said, standing before Jerrock. "Uhh, yeah. Hm?" The man looked at the mutant calmly, as if secretly relieved. "I had asked if I could help you. But there was a steady absence of retort." The way this young man talked gave a little insight. "You're mature for your age." He said, simply. "I uhh...thank you? I don't understand how..." He began, but was quickly cut off. "You're the manager of this building, yes?" The gentleman nodded. "I'm William Kidd, but you can call me Jerrock." He said, putting a hand foreward. As they shook hands, the man explained his name was Mr. Conners. "Well, it's nice to meet you. I'd like a room here, if you dont mind." The man grinned. Jerrock couldn't pinpoint what interested him about this man. But he did know that the very way he spoke was quite perplexing.
A few hours later, he was set. He was in his room, unloading his satchel, which seemed to never empty. My own place. No streets, no thugs. Just me on my own.
He'd decided to go pick some things up for dinner. He walked down the stairs into the common area of the apartment complex. "Thank you so much, Mr. Kidd. I was beginning to think I'd have to close this place down." Jerrock smiled. "Don't mention it. Besides, it's not like I'm not getting something out of it." The man nodded, then proceeded to his office. "Hey, do you know anywhere around here that's hiring?" The man poked his head out of the doorway. "I think Maverick's is hiring if you're interested in Bar tending." Kidd thought about it for a moment. "I've never even considered it, but a job's a job. And where would this place be?" He asked. "Right on Main. It's a huge building called the Jacksonville Landing. You can't miss it." You can't miss it, he said. How hard could it be to find such a place. "Thank you, I may check it out tomorrow."
And with that, he made his way to the grocery store.

Tori had gone on a mission, alone this time, one that only she could do. And she’d gotten the information. Now it was time to have some fun. Just a little. Jacksonville. Amusing name. She really didn’t want to head back yet. Yes logan was in New York, but this was warm. And humid but soothing. At least for her. She walked down the sidewalk, and spotted a grocery store. Hm. Buy something to eat maybe? She slipped inside her, short body easily getting hidden in the story.
Though she wasn’t lost. Just… looking. As soonas she’d stepped in she’d noticed a human. Mutant. She only kenw because of his… fire. Something that she saw instinctively. A Mutant’s fire was different from a pure human (though they were all human). It was… larger, and just… acted differently. She was seeing the driving force of a person. Your… spark of life. And she could snuff it if need be, though she didn’t realize that yet.
She grabbed a ding dong (Ew, but hey it was something to buy) and headed in his general direction. She needed milk. She was gonna be here a couple days anyways. Information was great, but you never know what you could find. She smiled as she passed him, heading towards the milk, and then stopped, looking at it. ”To many choices.” she muttered in true annoyance. The fire inside of her kept an eye on the Mutant. Cute. Though she perfered her Logan. Inside she chuckled at that description. Her Logan. She wondered how he would react to THAT. Not that it mattered. The small woman sighed, glancing at him. ”Ever thought that? That there’s to many choices to buy from?”

I got bills to pay. I got mouths to feed And ain't nothin in this world for free
Jacksonville FL 7.20.2011
The store was arranged so...differently. Well, it could be just he's used to hillbillies trying to arrange all stores in the same order. Though, this city wasn't run by hillbillies. But it was run by someone.
He pondered on that thought a little longer. Who was the lead scientist, using each and every lab rat, that lived in this huge city? Nevertheless, we all get used every now and again. It was kinda chilly in here. The whole place seemed to smell of new plastic. It nearly made him choke. A few humans gestured a welcoming hello to him. He simply nodded to them. As he turned down the desired aisle, there were a couple of elderly females in the way. What were they doing, you might ask? Gossiping. Yeah. That's something I'll never understand.
Understanding That was an understatement. He often wondered why humans would just stand in the middle of the way, pretending not to see someone patiently awaiting their move, chatting their lives away. Granted, it didn't seem there was much more life in them. Ha. That was rude. "I'm terribly sorry..." One finally said to him. "Excuse me." He returned politely, moving on down the aisle. Ah, there we are. He grabbed the package of food, then moved about his way. Cheese was next on his list.
That was when he saw her, moving about.
He took in her whole being, tilting his head. A few strands of hair swept itself across his face, planting itself near his eyes. The way she dressed, she was definitely important. "Maybe she's the Lead Scientist." He muttered to himself. Though, she almost seemed gentle, but not, all at the same time. It would take a few shades of color being removed before really seeing her for who she really is.
Secrets Another understatement. He wondered if she was...different, like him. Though, he could not identify it. It wasn't as if he were really around any other of his kind. Does he even have a kind? Maybe he was the only one with strange oddities. He moved forward to the panel, where dairy products were placed. Out of the corner of his eye, he saw her walk up. She began talking to herself. He settled with an under the breath hmph.
But she wasn't talking to herself at all. She was talking to him. "Hmm?" She looked to him, asking: ”Ever thought that? That there’s to many choices to buy from?” Good question. Though, he understood that she didn't seek just that answer. There were many more to follow, he could almost guarantee it. "Oh, right. I'm more the type to figure out what I want before I get there." He looked at her, trying to understand what about him that peeked her interest.
Up until today, he'd been totally invisible to society. But now, he's spoken with not one, but two people on just this very day. "But why do I get the feeling that wasn't the answer you were seeking?"
He was determined to peel this onion, and get down to the real business.

Her head tilted back in laughter at his superb answer. She liked him. He was smart, quick on the uptake, and well. Cute. Even she could see that. ”Smart are we? No that wasn’t that wasn’t the answer I wanted exactly.” she said with a rather coy smile. What? She was aloud to flirt. Though she bet Logan would disagree. Full heartedly. That was his problem. She watched the man as she chose a milk. One of the many, full milks. What was the point of skim? Or anything like that.
Her accent was LA, or nothing really. It was smooth, so really you wouldn’t ever be able to tell where she lived. She smiled at him a bit. ”Though I must ask. Ever wonder why you see the world a big differently?” let’s see if he gets it. She hoped he would. Mutants did need to band together, though she didn’t know if he’d want to work with her, and her people, the X-men could use other’s. She knew that. It was his choice though. She’d let him choice, after he figured out about herself.

I can't slow down, and I can't go back Though you know, I wish I could
Jacksonville FL 7.20.2011
He looked at her intently. There was something seeded, deep within her questions. An ulterior motive, maybe? The more questions she asked, the more information she gave way. Now he knew. She wanted something from him. But what did he have to offer? She was on official business. So maybe she was the scientist. "So...are we gonna keep beating around the bush?" He said, smiling.
"To answer your question, no. I don't wonder. Because, I'm different. But you already knew that, didn't you?" He said, grinning. He was beginning to understand. She knew about his "difference." Maybe not, persay, that he's gay, given the estimate of her flirting. But she'd studied him, maybe she'd seen him in the act. Jerrock fiddled with the cheese wrapper. Oh, cellophane! Why must you be so bothersome?
Intent She stood there, quietly. Was it something he'd said? Or perhaps he'd hit the nail on the head? Her silence was somewhat of a nuisance. "If my questions bother you...?" He trailed off. Again, she was on business. Somehow, she knew he was here, in Jacksonville, FL. Hell, even in this very store. How many different places could he have been. The lights in the store began to flicker just after a large thunderous noise came from outside. Great, and now it's storming. Perfect. He would now dread having to walk all the way back to his apartment in the storm.
Normally, he loved walking. However, not knowing anyone here was kind of troubling. Who were the members of the 'wrong crowd'? He literally knew no one besides this fascinating young lady and his landlord. A short minute later, the lights wen't out. It wasn't really that dark. He'd turned his head just in time to see someone, a young lady, dropping a bottle of wine. Before he'd known he was doing it, he slowed time. He ran quickly to make it just in time. Time came back to normal pace as his hands traveled just beneath the bottle. "Here you go." He said, winking at her. "You should be more careful." He said, genuinely.
He walked back over to the young lady, who had an eyebrow raised in perfect arch. "Oh, dear." He muttered to himself. What had he gotten himself into?
((pardon me for the dramatic use of power.... had to improvise. Writer's block and all...))

Tori smiled at the man, he hadn’t responded to the flirt. Hm. She let that slide then. Though he was quick. She was quiet though. Thinking. Letting him sweat. She was aloud to after all. ”Yes. I knew that. You don’t exactly walk like a normal… Human.” there, now she sounded like the Brotherhood. Joy. NOT what she wanted, but oh well. She slipped past him a bit, looking for Cheese now.
She looked up as the lighting struck, and then thunder. She grinned. Storms. Something that she couldn’t control. She loved ‘em. They sometimes created fire, though there was fire everywhere. Above her in the light bulbs, in the microwave, though it was harder to control. She had to laugh softly as humans started to scurry away. It wouldn’t hurt you people to get wet you know. Of course she didn’t say that. Fire hated water, but Victoria Crane? Loved it. It was soothing. Relaxing. Calming. She wasn’t her power, and yet she was. It was an interesting mix.
She glanced at him as he moved much to quickly to be normal. There we go. She was already analyzing it. ”Something tells me we should get out of here, before she realizes you were all the way over here.” she said simply, as she headed for the cash register. Glancing at him. ”If you want, we can talk else where.” she was no scientist, but that didn’t mean she didn’t have an agenda.

And there ain't no rest for the wicked Until we closed our eyes for good
Jacksonville FL 7.20.2011
He felt the very depth of her lust, burning at his epidermis. He grinned. But there was something far more mysterious. It literally warmed him. It was like standing just next to a blazing fire. Perhaps, too much time in the lab had made the scientist different. Had an experiment gone wrong? Or was she born with it? He knew she understood what he meant, even through the witty banter.
Desire But what was it that she wanted? His abilities? ”Yes. I knew that. You don’t exactly walk like a normal… Human.” Her words were like knives, digging, piercing through his heart. "And, here I thought I was safe in such a massive city." He mumbled, already debating where he was to go next. "That's what this is about? Some theory that I'm inhuman?" He continued. Incisive lines manifested itself across Jerrock's forehead. "You feign being of normality in the hopes that I will become another of your lab rats?"
And to what expectation did she adumbrate? It was true, he was very novel. But was that to mean that he was not human?
This was a lot to process in such little time. How long had he known her, a few minutes or so? "Furthermore, you know nothing about me." He said, carefully thinking what he says. How could she know? Was she impervious to his abilities? Granted, how can one be in more than one place in the same exact second. It was, indeed, understandable. She'd seen it first hand, after all. "I'm not from here. How did you know I'd be here?" He knew his questions were many, and very demanding. But, it was not just her that could interrogate, right?
”Something tells me we should get out of here, before she realizes you were all the way over here.” she said turning afoot and heading towards the front. ”If you want, we can talk else where.” Now her whole demeanor had changed. She was almost fearful of what was to come.
Why did you come here for me?" He said, suddenly walking at her side. As he said such, two men came from the front, and four from the back. They were surrounding them. The customer rep that he'd helped was pointing at them, whispering to another man, who was nearby the register. "I'm assuming this is what you meant?" He asked her one final question. "Stay where you are, mutant."
Mutant?

She froze at his word of Lab Rat, and growled, anger flairing. ”I don’t use lab rats. I’m a soldier, not a Scientist.” the anger was definatly there, but she stopped the Fire from blazing up, as it wanted to do. She’d be jumped on faster than him, and she didn’t have super speed (Unless she went Wild Fire on them, in which case EVERYONE should run).
”And your human. Inhuman are those who try to kill everyone. Doubt your one of them.” She said softly, as she moved past him, annoyance coloring her voice. ”I didn’t. I can just tell the difference between Mutant’s and Normals’.” she said simply. She caught sight of the other humans. ”I’m not from around here. I came here to buy some food for a week before I go home. I just saw you, and got interested. Why? Something wrong with th-“ she was cut off by the word Mutant.
She glared at the man. ”You gonna tell me that your stopping us because he’s a mutant? That’s against his rights.” her voice was smooth, and she sounded… scary. A bit hollow. The man stopped and looked at her. Suddenly she shoved her hand in her black jacket pocket and pulled something out, she held it up. ”I’m an officer of the United States Military, the SMMO branch.” her glare was angry.
”Now get out of our way. Last year showed that we have to be more toleraint, or we get insane Mutants running around. Leave this one alone.” she snapped. No one knew what SMMO was. Though there had been something announced about them. No one knew much though. That would change soon. Already there were motions to make the SMMO the Mutant Branch of the military. She watched and waited. Her stance changing from just some woman, to a Military officer, with her straight back and watchful eyes.

And there ain't no rest for the wicked Until we closed our eyes for good
Jacksonville FL 7.20.2011
Insert. Foot. Inside. Mouth. Yep, that's what happens when you don't trust anyone. ”I don’t use lab rats. I’m a soldier, not a Scientist.” Interesting concept. She'd answered every question, encrypted. There were still questions to be answered. But that was neither here nor there. This was not the time, or place for that matter. They were in the midst of humans who obviously didn't care for his abilities. Oh well. Can't win them all, right?
"They're not gonna listen to you." He said, deja vu hitting like a rock. Similar situations always tend to occur. He grabbed her wrist with one hand then waved another. "There, let's move quickly. It won't last long."
He made quick ground, hitting the sidewalk before his power gave way. "Military, huh?" He said, trying to keep his thoughts clear. Any time he seemed to try to make sense of the situation, it just never really helped the scenario. "And there are others?" He never dreamed that there'd be others like him. Did they have the same powers as him? Similar? Or different all together? Did they look the same? Or did they look alien? The possibilities seemed endless.
Finally, they were out of the clear. They turned down an alleyway, and the gang, whomever they were, weren't there. "Who are you?"

She sighed. He was right. They weren’t. She glared at them, daring them to move forward. Then he grabbed her and ran. Much faster than a normal human being. Yep. Mutant. When they stopped she took a moment to breath. ”Yes. Mutants. Power’s. Like you, or me. There’s plenty of other’s like us, though we all look different, act different, have different motives. We’re humans, just… superitized.” she said with a shrug. That was easy for her. She’d always understood that.
”I am Victoria Crane. Captain of the SMMO. Leader there to. I’m also known as Rogue Eagle, at least that’s my super name. The SMMO is the Special Mutant Military Oporation. Not that it sound’s good, but it’s the first thing that came to mind. What about yourself?” she asked as she checked around her. ”And yes I’m military. Though I’m a bit… loose on that term. I do things my way. Gotten me in trouble, at least until I was givin’ my own stuff to deal with.”

There were more people in the world with gifts. For the first time in his entirety, Jerrock didn't feel quite so alone. "I've got somewhere we can go." He said calmly. She seemed a bit out of breath. Jerrock chuckled a bit. "Well, nice to meet you, Victoria." He drew a breath, then spoke again. "I'm William Kidd. I come from an orphanage in Georgia."
As they approached the apartment, his landlord showed up. "I was wondering if you'd disappeared." He said, sighing in relief. He smiled. He didn't know why, but he could feel an engaging friendship blooming. "Seeing as that's not the case, this is Victoria Crane, and she'll be spending the afternoon here with me." Almost looking disappointed, the man nodded. "We've just met and we have matters to attend to." He said it with an ulterior motive, but didn't really know if the man caught on. Mr. Conners bowed himself. "Well, I'll leave you to that. If you need anything, Mr. Kidd, you know how to reach me."

Victoria nodded. ”Good.” and they went. ”Ah. Another Orphan. Welcome to the club. Most Mutants do end up being Orphans, thought not all for their whole or most of their whole life.” she said simply, pushing past the fear that she always felt when ever she thought about her father. She kept moving though.
She watched the exchange with some amusment. ”nice guy. Mak him a friend. You’ll always need ‘em.” she said with a laugh, before she relaxed a bit more. ”So. No you aren’t the only mutant. There are other’s. plenty of them. But like humans they come in all flavors. How come you don’t know about the mutants? It’s… been on the news for a long time. Over a year, though much more in this year, the hero’s and villians of the Mutants… I think it’s even a show.”

He moved swiftly up the stairway, as if the police, or whomever they were, were still after them. She continued to tell him about mutants.
”nice guy. Make him a friend. You’ll always need ‘em.” He looked back at her. "Pardon?" He questioned her. Oh, she was talking about his landlord. "Oh, he's just my landlord." He turned his head back in the forward direction, blushing ever so slightly. It was true, Mr. Conners was his landlord, but secretly, he wanted a little something more than that. "Yeah, I guess he's a keeper." He said cryptically. He thought that he caught a chuckle from her. ”So. No you aren’t the only mutant. There are other’s. plenty of them. But like humans they come in all flavors. How come you don’t know about the mutants? It’s… been on the news for a long time. Over a year, though much more in this year, the hero’s and villians of the Mutants… I think it’s even a show.”
Well, there was an explanation for that. However, I wouldn't call it logical. "I'm nomadic. I move frequently." He said plainly. "And, nomads don't exactly pay attention to news or idle gossip."

She caught a slight smile. Ah. ”He’s cute to.” she said softly. Her dark eyes smileing. ”And I can’t read your mind, I just… watch.” she added with a grin, as she sat down in his home, flicking her fingers and playing with a tad bit of fire.
”Nomad? Nice. It’s a good thing to be. Ever wanted something a bit more… solid? Paycheck and all that?” she asked with a smile, her dark eyes waiting.

"He's cute too." She said. And boy was she right. "Yes, yes I know." He said, an intoxicating grin toying with his lips. Mr. Conners was exactly the young man's type. Tall, lean, dark hair, brown eyes, the whole nine yards. Though, the orphaned man had never been with anyone. Not in a relationship, nothing. He'd never been close to anyone.
He shook his thoughts away.
”Nomad? Nice. It’s a good thing to be. Ever wanted something a bit more… solid? Paycheck and all that?” A substantial lifestyle would be more than considerate, but a paycheck that comes along with it? That's an interesting concept. "Honestly, I'd just like to feel safe in my own home." He said in a gesture of complete resolve. He toyed with the idea of working with her. "What would said job require of me?" He'd never been one to lick a gift horse in the mouth.
Though, he'd like to remain her in Jacksonville if it were possible. However, maybe he could take time off to come back. It was a beautiful place, thought he. "Why are you even interested in giving me a job?"
