It was a long day. The sun was setting. At least in New York state. The weather was getting warmer, and humid. Though you couldn’t tell from the brunet woman who walked out of a large gray building. Her dress uniform, based off the US Air Force Dress Uniform, was a dark blue, and crisp. Even after a long day. She moved with crisp movements as she headed towards the training grounds. Her black pumps putting her up at about five three. Adding two inches to her normal height. Her hat kept her brown hair from whishing around. She muttered to herself as she walked, and as she passed the flag, she saluted, without thinking.

She stopped at the training grounds. There she stood still and watched. She could see Malcolm Xavier pushing at a much larger Earthshifter. His body was still, but he was straining. His hand was out as he tried to rip the big man from the ground. It didn’t work. She watched with a small smile, as she identified Gale and Maria. She didn’t notice as someone teleported about fifty feet behind her, and then started to walk towards her. She jumped badly when a voice she had only dreamed of in nightmares came to her ears.

”You’ve done well for yourself Victoria Teresa, Crane. Why didn’t you tell me?” She turned slowly, all the color draining from her face, and her brown eyes big with fear. Standing next to her was a mid-sized man, (taller than her), who looked like her. She took a step back, her breath catching. ”Wh-wh-what the hell are you doing here?” the voice was obvious, as she took another step back. The man gave her a rather nasty smile. ”They let me out. What? You aren’t glad to see your father?”

Logan had been working with a frazzled Jae( who was openly trying to gut him, but failing miserably) in panther form. He kept dodging the cat, almost enjoying her irritation at her insuccess at killing him. He knew that this would not help things out between them, but she had to learn how to fight well in her beastial forms. He had just slipped to the side of another pounce when he heard the sound of heels approaching. He knew whose footsteps those were. He held out a hand to stop Jae's next attack. "We are done for now." Jae stalked off to go and see how Mal was fairing with Richard as Logan stalked off to find his girlfriend.

Logan heard Tori's sharp intake of breath and lurch of her heart before he saw what was happening. A man had appear out of thin air behind her and Tori had somehow not noticed him. Neither had Logan... No smell or sound to indicate his presence. He was simply there...where nothing had been before. He lengthened his stride and caught the raw smell of fear coming from Tori. This made the beast strain to get free of his mental chains.

Nothing scared Tori...NOTHING. Her fear was enough to put him close to that fine line between sanity and animal. He had learned over his many years how to step up to that line and dance on it's razor edge. He was right there now. He came up behind Tori, his glacier eyes flashing with poor hate at the man that stood before her. He heard the last of his whispered words "You arn't glad to see your father?"

[/color] and let out a guteral snarl. He had been the one to cause so much pain to the woman that held the beast's leash...that made him an enemy on the spot. "Get away from her, you bastard." He snarled softly, wrapping his arms around the terrified woman and pulling her close. His claws unsheathed protectively as he held her close, trying to comfort without saying a word. He was ready to lend her his strength, and destroy the tormenter that had plauged her her whole life. She had only to say the word.[/size][/center]

Tori jumped again when she heard Logan behind her. He sounded inhuman. And she started to turn, but he locked his arms around her. She felt herself leaning back into the embrace, not caring what that could entail for the two of them. She closed her eyes as she heard Logan’s claws slip out. She tenced though, as she heard her father’s voice, it made her flinch. ”And you have control over me? She’s my daughter. What right have you to her?” he snarled in response. Tori managed to keep herself from trying to run (not that she could, she had no doubt that Logan would keep here there as long as he felt she needed to be there), but it wasn’t easy. Her dark eyes were hazy. She felt like she was five again and having to run away.

But another being slipped forward. ”Actually, Mr. Crane, the fact that you are a civilian on a Military base, without promision, or supervision says that you have to leave.” all six foot two of Malcolm Xavier practically appeared between the two sides. With a quick thought there was a barrer between the two sides. He gave Logan a withering look, and then looked at the man. With another thought he pressed against Tori’s mind, trying to sooth her, but of course, Lady Fire was untouchable, especially when panicking. He snarled softly as he took small steps, well small for him. He towered over everyone here at the moment. ”Get out.” he almost got him to move when the man faught him. ”No. I will not leave. I wish to speak with my daughter. And HE has no right to her.” he pointed at Logan, which just made Mal laugh.

Tori responded at that one. She started to focuse, enough to speak at least. ”You are wrong. You killed my mother, I am NOT your daughter.” she snarled, but refused to leave the comfort and protection of Logan’s arms. She knew what her father could do, and didn’t want to be his next victim.

Logan snarled at Mal's look, the beast not liking that a person that he counted a friend was aiding an enemy. He pulled Tori closer, kissing the spot where her neck joined her shoulder before moving infront of her, sheilding her with his body.

His voice was oddly hollow with a snarling edge as he addressed the man who called himself Tori's father. "You are no father of hers. You have no more claim to her as a wolf does the forest. I may have no claim to her, but she has claimed me. If you even try to touch her, your life is forfit, mongeral." He held one of his arms around Tori, keeping her from running. He needed her here with him. Here so he could keep her safe and she to keep the others safe if he snapped.

Jae began to creep quietly up behind the man. She had heard everything that was said and smelled Tori's fear. No one scared her Tori. Father or not, he did not belong here. She let out a roar as she lept at the man, claws exstended, but crashed into Mal's barrier. She fell with a screech and hissed in agitation. *Mal-Man. Let Jae kill Dead-Man. Tori scared, Log-Head hate. Jae want to KILL.* She snarled in Mal's mind while her shield wrapped itself around her panther body.

Mr. Crane watched what was happening with interested eyes. So the infamouse Wolverine was his daughter’s lover? That was interesting. He watched the way she moved around him. Wolverine may say he had no claim on her, but he must not have noticed how willing Victoria was to listen to him. She let him move ahead of her, even if it was just enough to show he was the dominant male. He moved and acted like a wolf. He may have the name wolverine, but he was so much like a wolf. Though he looked at the man with an unbiased eye. His child (for he still considered the small woman just behind logan his child) had found herself a powerful mate. The teleporter turned his attention to the girl trying to attack him. ”Pitiful child. You have no right to try to attack me. And you, Wolverine, say you have no claim on her, then why would you protect her so strongly? And you boy. What right do you have to ‘protect’ me?”

Mal snarled, his anger slipping over him like a cloak. Suddenly his shape was wavering, not truly seeable, and his sent faded, and became confusing. He was Shadow Mind. ”You will do no such thing, Wolverine, nor will you Jae. This is not a time to KILL him. Though it would be painstakingly easy to rip his powers from him. Leave him mentally bleeding. I could do it to.” he stalked forward, everything that was Xavier was gone. This was the being that had been held in check. He moved forward, closing the shield until it was inches from the small man before him. ”I can do it. Easily. My father knew how to block powers, I can take them from you. It’s painful if not done carefully. But maybe I should leave you to the claws of my friends? They’ll gladly rip you apart. It’s not every day that you can find Victoria Crane afraid, behind her lover. It’s not every day that you are faced with the man who killed her mother, in front of her, and tried to kill her. I don’t feel chairtable, I’m just trying to decide weather killing you would be justice enough.”

Tori staired wide eyed at what was going on. She instinctively tangled her fingers through logan’s, not wanting him to let her go, and wanting him to stay out of this. She knew her father could teleport away if he wanted to. ”P-please s-stop. J-just l-leave.” she was crying. Dammit she hated being afraid, but he could make her feel five again. ”No. I think not. You are my daughter, and I want a place in your life. You condemned me when you were a child, think as an adult. Please.” his face went from haughty laughter, and arrogant, to that of a repentant father, and it left Tori confused.

Logan laughed, the sound full of and insane snarl. His beast was at the foreground now, rising to defend its mistress. "You ask why I protect her? Because I am her champion, her protector. I stepped into the place of a lover as a protector, where a FATHER should have been. She is dominant over me, so she only has to say the word and you are walking carrion."

When Mal's scent disapeared and his form became hazy, Wolverine had to take a double-take. Normally this would have him thrown him off that razor's edge he danced on, but Tori's ever increasing fear kept him near the rabid animal he normally struggled to control. He listened to the hazy figure's speech, snarling first in anger at being denied the kill, but then a growl in agreement at the last part.

Logan held Tori's hand tightly as he began to smell her tears. The plain panic in her voice was enough to make him want to turn and comfort her, sooth her and make her calm again. But turning his back on an enemy was often a fatal mistake, so he ended up just speaking, a hint of humanity in his still feral voice. "Love, I am here for you... I will not leave your side." His eyes watched the man as he schooled his exspression to repentent and snarled feircely. He knew he was lieing. A man could not repent a moral sin just like that. His voice was a hollow whipser as he hissed. "Love...He lies. Don't believe the words he spews. He lies!"

Jae had had it at the moment he said pittiful. A peircing roar filled the man's mind as she leapt, her claws scrabbling at the sheild. *Jae have no right? Jae knows how Tori feels. Tori should never fear. Fear hurts like poison. JAE SHATTERED BECAUSE OF FEAR.* The panther suddenly shifted into a black cotton-mouth snake the size of a boa constrictor. The snake hissed and wrapped it'self around the shielded man, her mouth open to show monsterous fangs that dripped venom. *Fear like poison. Poison painful and kill slowly. Poisonous fear is TORTURE. Jae will torture YOU with POISON!* The snake raised her head to the man's head level and waited, fangs dripping and jeweled eyes flashing.

Damien watched the snake, he knew that she couldn’t constrict, something about the way the blond man behind her was smilling told him he was close to being dead though, but he hadn’t spent the last twenty five years in prison for nothing. He watched the snake wrap around him, more curious than anything else. He ignored the other man’s comment. He’d done what he’d had to. It was Maria’s fault for bringing a mutant child into the world, not his. She knew he didn’t want children, he didn’t want to pass down his curse. And he had, though she’d done something with it even he could be proud of, if only he could find away to control it, turn it to his own uses.

The blond man laughed, his head thrown back, it was a dark dangerous laugh. One that promised a slow death, and one that promised insanity. ”Damion Crane, how nice of you to think that. As long as I’ve known Victoria, she’s never given into other’s trying to steal her idea’s or jobs. I dobut you’d be able to… Ha. Yes. I am a Mental mutant. As was my father. Only I divulge into the darker side of things. Now. Jae, please let him go. Just for now. Your poision would kill him to quickly, he’d thrash to much, which would only send the poison through faster.” with deft movements of his fingers, from afar he removed her body from the shield, and placed it beside it, his body not even showing the strain. He glanced at Logan. ”I’d get her out of here Wolverine. Children shouldn’t see their parents… Well. Just get her out of here.” his voice was dark, his blue eyes dangerous. With that he turned his head back to Damien. ”what do you plan to do to me?” Mal stepped forward til he was touching the shield. ”Distroy you.” his voice was soft, as if speaking to a lover. He saw the fear light in the small man’s eyes, and he reveled in it.

Tori watched with curious horror. She couldn’t stop it… her mouth wouldn’t move. She stepped back, around Logan’s arms, behind him now. She was terrified, and wanted to run. But after she’d stepped back she couldn’t move, her dark eyes locked on the powerplay going on. Mal could break her father with his bare being at the moment, and they all knew it. Mal’s smile turned lazy, as he reached out and touched the sheild, making it squeeze tighter, now touching the man’s skin. She whimpered softly as her body took another step back, her heels hitting rocks and making her fall over, but she didn’t notice. Terror was not new to her but, this level of terror was. She hadn’t realized the pull Darien Crane had over her until she’d seen him, and now Mal was scaring her as well.

Jae let out a faint hiss as Mal removed her massive bulk from around Damien and layed her gently by him. She uncoiled swiftly raising up to look Mal in the eye. She blinked a jeweled blue eye before setting her gaze on Damion's again. Oh, she had been tortured for over 10 years of her short life, so she knew ways to make the mind break that few sane people could stomach. Oh, the broken girl was going to reveal in every moment of his pain, drink in every drop of his terror. This would be a small bit of justice for what had been done to her, but it would help her regain some of herself that was lost in the dark abyss of her mind.

*Malcom, may I aid you in destroying this piece of filth? Torture and pain is something that I have learned as an Art.* Jae's normally childish vioce was gone, replaced by an insane and suductive murmur that had abandoned her normal stunted speech. The snake hissed softly and the girl slipped into Damion's mind. A wailing scream of terror and pain began to fill the man's mind as Jae waited for Mal's responce to her offer.

Logan snarled at Mal as he removed Jae, but as he heard Mal's words, he strained to pull himself back from that animalistic rage that threatened to overtake him. He nodded, sheathing his claws as Tori broke away from him and stumbled back. With a final gaze at the soon to be dead man, he turned to the terrified Tori. His eyes were still extremely sharp and feral, but his voice had lost it's mad quality. He bent down to scoop her into his arms and crooned. "Come, love. This is something we don't need to see." With that he strode away, cradling Tori to his chest, arms locked around her like a steel cage.

Damien’s voice was shot down before it left his lips. The scream was terrifying, but he couldn’t move his lips. Mal laughed softly. He touced the snake carefully. ”Don’t, just yet my dear. Let them get inside.” he murmured as he walked around the being. He made the shield maliable, now nothing could actually hurt him, but they could toy with him. ”Now, dear Damien, how should I put this? I relieved Victoria’s memory’s seven years ago. She was terrified, and I helped her get through it. Guess what? I know what she went through. You, are, a bastard. We shall kill you slowly. Jae? Have fun.” he said as he dropped the shield but held the man still, refusing to let him teleport. He stepped back, letting the snake do it’s work. He’d enjoy this. He made sure to be inside the man’s mind as the girl went to work. Oh his father wouldn’t be proud but damn this felt good.

Tori responded to Logan’s touch, by clutching herself closer to him. She buried her face in his neck, trying to calm down. He promised protection and she’d hold him to that. She willed herself to let the fear go, now that the object of her fear wasn’t in sight, she felt better, but only a little, she kept her eyes closed as she clung to logan.

Jae's jeweled eyes glittered in glee as she felt Mal's shield turn maluable. She could slip inside and begin to shread the man's sanity. First she imoblized the man's body, shutting off his brain's control over limbs. She grazed his neck with a fang, letting a tiny drop of vemon get into his system. Oh, it was not enough to kill him, but it would eat away at his body till there was bearly anything that would be left freee of pain. She flicked out her forked tounge to gently lick his neck, eyes fixed on his before she shut off his vision.

In his mind, Damoin came into feeling. He was laying on his back, arms spread out to his sides and teathered along with his legs, torso and head, with invisable bands. He was surrounded in misty blackness apparently alone, the wailing that had filled his mind earlier errily silent. With a sudden jolt, his body was jerked vertical and he his eyes fell on an emaciated form before him. The female before him was a pasty white, skin hanging on to her skeleton like an ill-fitting rag. She was covered in a dirty shift, her blond hair dirty and matted. The scariest part was her face. It was gaunt and taught, silver eyes full of an insane glee. "This," The thing said in a raspy voice walking up to Damein to run a boney finger down his cheek, "It what I was reduced to. This is what terror did to me. And now, I will give you the full banquet of what terror can offer." The woman ran a fore-finger straight down the center of Damien's chest, and a terrible pain filled him. As her finger lazily dragged down his chest, it felt like he was getting cut open, though no marks appeared on his body. Every stroke, more pain filled his mind. She was flaying him appart with the effeicentcy of a butcher cutting up a chicken. She revealed in his shrieks and moans of pure agony, making sure Mal was seeing exactly what she was.

A few minute later, she finished her butcher job and smiled wickedly. Damien was whimpering, his eyes screwed shut from the pain. "Open your eyes, my sweet. See that you body it unharmed. I know you are breaking my love. This is what torment is. It's a beautiful thing." With that she allowed the darkness to sink and and released his mental bondage. He stumbled and began to run, the errie wailing begining again. A smokey shadow appeared behind him, red eyes glowing and a dark chuckle sounding from where it chased him. "Run, run, little mouse. There is no escaping me." The voice chortled. Shadowy arms came out of no where, reaching out and trying to grab at the running man. Skeletal arms grasping to pull him down. The wailing reached a new keening hight and Jae felt his sanity shatter like a crystal vase hitting a marble floor. The female voice let out a triumphant cry as she pulled out of the reminants of his mind and allowed eyes to function again.

She waited for him to open his eyes as she curled herself around him, her head on a level with his. She wanted him to look death in the face. She gave Mal a mental carress and murmured seductivly. *Malcom, you have but to say the word. You may do as you please, or I will end it now. His debt has been payed at the price of his mind."* She waited, forked tounge flitting in and out, waiting for what Mal would do next. What ever it was Jae would be happy with it, fore she had tore his mind appart, just like he deserved.

Logan brought her into her room in the complex and layed down on her bed, holding his Tori close to his chest. He was fully in control of himself now and he kissed Tori lightly on the cheek. "Tori, my love. You are safe. Nothing can hurt you here now. You are safe. I am here. Calm yourself, love." His voice was a seductive murmur and was doing his best to destroy the woman's panic. She was safe, she just had to figure it out.

Mal watched and listened, watched the writhing of the human body, trying to run form pain, even if she cut off his ability to control his body, his mental sub contious was still there, and would make him react. Not that Mal minded, he watched, a coy, dark smile on his lips. He watched, and waited. When jae moved back he chuckled. He felt something in her click back into place. There she goes. All better now. But his attention wasn’t on the girl. Damien was still in control of his mind. Oh he was mostly broken, but he’d spent twenty five years in prison. Suddnely he was surrounded by a battle. The one that had killed Jean Gray, and the then it changed to the moment when Charles was ripped apart. Then it changed again. This time to a happy moment. A little boy was laughing on his father’s lap, giggling about something the pair were reading. The man was in a wheel chair, but the boy and man didn’t even notice, they continued to read. Then another moment, when the boy was graduaiting from high school, his tall body crouching next to the same man in the wheel chair, contentment in both faces. ”This, Damien, is how you should treat your children. With caring. You didn’t do that. You will pay.” he said softly, as he knelt next t o the fallen man, his lips brushing his ear. Then with a dark look, ripped the man’s powers from him, the feral scream from the man giving him satisfaction. The man was whimpering, totally broken. ”Don’t kill him Jae. This is a better ending for him. To bad Victoria couldn’t be included, but I don’t think a child should see their parents destroyed. Go get Richard, he’ll know what to do with him. I have to go. Enjoy yourself. Just don’t kill him.” he said before he walked off, his movements hard to track. He still was off, changed, as he headed for his car.

Tori inside curled up against Logan, trying to breath. She took deep breaths, stopping her tears. ”Logan I’m scared.” she whispered, terrified. She needed to be close to him, she shot up when she heard the scream, and closed her eyes, shivering now.

Jae hissed happily as her body shrank down to the size of a normal constrictor snake. She just left the man whimpering on the ground and slithered away. She shifted into a human for the first time in a long time and walked into the room tori had given her. She pulled on a black t-shirt and a pair of jeans before leaving the room to go to Richard.

She found him outside his office, apparently wondering what all the screaming was about. She walked right up to him and loked into his eyes with her silver ones. *Richard, there is a broken thing outside. Mal said you would deal with it. It will trouble Tori no longer. Mal and I have made sure of it.* She slipped past him and went down the hall. It felt wonderful to be in control of herself again. She felt so sure and confident...and so powerful. She knew that she was a danger to everyone around her right now, so she would go and collect herself in the woods before coming back here again.

Logan heard the scream too, but just pulled Tori close to him again. "I know, Tori...I know..." He leaned close to lightly kiss her on the lips as his arms held her close. "There is nothing to fear now. Your father will never hurt you again. None of us will let him." He felt her shivering and just held her now, letting her take her own time to relax and regain control of herself. This was a traumatic exspericence for her, one that she would never forget. But he knew he would be there as a balm for the pain, forever and without a second thought.

Tori leaned into Logan’s arms. He was safe. She closed her eyes leaning against him, her hat on the floor. She was going to have to get her uniform clean, and pressed, again. That brought her back to reality, and she forced herself to clam down. She focused on him and the things she could control. Though it took a long time before she stopped shaking, and the sun was going down by then. She had dozed off at one point, and woke up with a start. ”Logan.” she murmured, pain still lacing her voice, but it wasn’t so bad. Sleep did wonders, and she was human, mutant yes, but she was human. She bounced back. She’d forget this trama sooner or later, already it was fading a bit. Ah the wonders of the human brain. But the fire wouldn’t forget, and as she lifted her head, the fire blazed for a moment behind her eyes, letting Logan know that even if she forgot, it wouldn’t. ”Thank you Logan… I… Didn’t mean to… panic.” she nearly whispered.
