   Mal drove home carefully. Ripping mr. cranes powers from him had… terrified him. It had been so satisfying, but… wrong. So wrong. He was horrified with himself. With what he’d done. How could he? It was breaking a rule. A rule that his father would never had crossed. Dammit this was to hard. He drove his car into the underground garage below his apartment complex, and then used the elevator to get up the three floors. Then from there he walked down the hall way, into his condo. It was a pretty thing, and he stopped to look around. This was a safe haven. ”Laura?” he didn’t know if she was here, but he went and sat down on his couch, not taking off his coat (not something he did often), and left his boots on, he looked like hell. Well hansom hell. His hair and everything was fine, it was his eyes. They were haunted. He closed them as he tried to prosses what he’d just done, but no. His photographic memory made sure he could never forget what he’d done. God he hated himself.

   Laura was... settling in was the best way to put it. She'd been crashing at Malcolm's apartment without paying rent or doing much of anything for a few weeks now. He hasn't asked her for anything but company; letting him into her life was something she was a little leery to do but she was finding she liked spending time with the blonde mentalist. It was nice to have someone the knew her secrets and didn't hold her past against her.
She really didn't have alot of stuff to fill her time - it was driving her a touch stir crazy. Were as Malcolm has a combo of classes and his work with the phantom 'Rogue Eagle' Tori that Laura had yet to meet, Laura spent alot of her time doing what she always had done - stalking the streets, working out, generally being her own personal cross between a hero and a hoodlum.
She was in her room when Mal had come home - well, not her room, but the room Mal had given her to stay in. For it to actually be her room, she really should have unpacked her bags - you know, had something in it to personalize it. Still though, her clothing and all her belongings still lived in the duffle bag against the wall. She loved spending time with Mal, but she didn't think that he really wanted her around him for the rest of his life; she'd need to leave eventually.
Mal's voice startled her from her meditation, dark lashes fluttering open. She was resting cross legged on the bed, trying to relax when something about his voice pulled her into motion. "Yea Mal?" She rolled into motion, boneless grace of her training making it liquid smooth as she climbed off the bed and padded out of the room.
Bare feet crushed against the carpet as she moved down the hall. Out of habit, she inhaled; she could smell the odor of Malcolm - his shampoo, his aftershave. No one else, but still... something didn't feel right. She thought about changing, but then it wouldn't be the first time Mal had seen her in her cream tanktop and her soot grey yoga pants.
The sight that greeted her was a little startling. Mal was always... confident, smiling. Kinda a smart alex with a little hinky humor. But to see him sitting there, looking so... just so unlike Malcolm. It probably showed on Laura's face as she moved toward him, not sure what to do. "Malcolm?" She stopped by his knees, crouching by the couch in a sort of a squat. His face was... blank. It scared Laura to see him like this. "Mal? What's wrong?"

Normally, she would have flinched away at the touch; she didn't like people reaching for her. But something about the look in his eyes, on his face... the way he spoke. She remained still, accepting his touch as she tilted her head to look up at him a little better. "Difficulty? What kind of Difficulty? Is everyone okay?"
[/color] She watched things move, hidden just behind the eyes of his. Something had gone wrong, Laura kinda knew it before he said anything. She could smell Wolverine on him, others - Tori was one he had pointed out before. A man she didn't know, and a female... one she couldn't pinpoint, but it wasn't important right now. Something was seriously wrong, something had shaken Mal up pretty bad... he was never shook up.
"Wanna talk about it? Or just need a hug?" She said it almost as a joke, but it was a genuine offer. She didn't move at first, letting her hair drop against his hand as she waited for his reply. She almost wanted to hug him - he was that look, she was pretty sure. The scared, confused look that was so out of place on Mal's features. After a moment though, it was a little too much. Rolling her shoulders, she slipped Malcolm's hand over her shoulder and down her arm as she climbed up onto the couch next to him. She wasn't a super lovey person, but had her moments. Tucking her legs under her, she opened her arms a little for him and shook her head. "You know what? Forget I asked... if you want to talk about it, that's fine. But later, come on...promise I don't bite."[/size] [/center] WORDS!--

 Mal frowned. No. everyone was not ok. One man was just a husk of a human, one woman was unshattered, but the way it had been done was… wrong. Victoria was panicked, and he wasn’t sure what was up with Logan, but he didn’t really care either. Logan would take care of himself. He always had. Mal understood that. ”Depends on what you call okay. But physically, everyone’s fine.” he said softly. He wasn’t sure he was ready to tell why everyone was only PHYSICALLY ok. But that was up to him.
Even her joke didn’t really bring a smile to his face, but he did give her a hug, closing his eyes, for only a second, and pulled away. He felt only mildly better, but he could pretend couldn’t he? ”thank you for understanding… Let’s just say it was unexpected, and rather… unusual.” he said softly. He force himself to think of other things. ”I think you should come to the base next time I go. Your going to bump into Logan at some point, and I’d rather not get in trouble for not telling him…” though he doubted the smaller man could touch him if he so wanted. He could keep himself distorted from the wolf based mutant, as long as he had a touch on the mans mind. Illusion at it’s greatest. But he didn’t think he’d do that again. That was… wrong. Though Shadow Mind couldn’t help his blurring and fading, and sent disappearing when upset. It just happened. He figured it was a natural defense mechanism to his anger or fear.
The man noticed acutly how close Laura was to him but he didn’t really think much about it, beyond that she was warm. And smelled nice. But then again, she’d been here a while so of course she’d smell nice.

She closed her arms around Malcolm, feeling the strange aura on him... it didn't help calm her worries, but she seemed to fake it a little better then he was. She let him go when he pulled away, but almost wanted to hold him a little longer. That spooked her a little... okay, it spooked her alot. It must be a sign that she was getting comfortable around him.
As he thanked her for understanding, she smiled softly and gave a little shrug. What else could she do? Mal was her friend - one of the few she had. "No problem, Mal. Its what friends are for, right?"
[/color]She didn't like seeing him upset, but she couldn't do much more unless she wanted to pry. And Prying, she could see, would only make it worse. She let her arms drop into her lap as he pulled away, sighing inwardly a little when he commented about her coming to the base with him. "I don't know... I'm not good with military structure."[/b] Her voice was a little soft. Truth was, she was scared to go into another base; last base-like thing she was in, she carved her way out threw property and people. She gave a soft shake of her head, a little laugh. "I'm actually surprised he hasn't said something already - not to put to fine a point on it, but Wolverine should have smelled me on you by now. He must be slipping." Or, he didn't care; but Laura didn't say that part out loud. Plus, her comment about him 'smelling' like her could have been worded a little better. She had the sense to blush a little, giving a little laugh. "Sorry, that came out wrong - I was simply meaning ambient, like a ... yea. I'll shut up." [/b]She gave her head a little shake, sighing at herself. [/size] [/center] WORDS!--

Mal could tell she wasn’t quiet sure he was better, but she was going to let it slide. Good. He wasn’t about to explain. This was a hurt he had to deal with alone. He nodded. ”Always.” he said with a slight nod. He liked her a lot. She was a good friend, even if sometimes she was a bit odd. He liked that. Then again he was odd.
”To visit, Laura, to visit, not join. I work there as a consultant. You’d be a visitor that would have to be off base after like nine at night.” he said with a grin at her. He shrugged. ”Before you judge him, he’s been busy with someone. Wrapped up with her. He doesn’t pay much attention to much else unless he has to. It’s amusing to see him like that. I saw him as a kid, though he didn’t know it. He’s in more control now, than before though. So I’m not supprised he hasn’t noticed. It’s that kind of thing.” he said with a slight smile. Relax into it, forget about earlier, at least for now. Well he’d never forget but he could be selective.
”It’s ok. He’s being odd. Then again he’s Wolverine, I don’t know what is NOT odd for him, but you know. Sometimes he acts out of character. I don’t think he means to it just happens. I keep getting flashes of him when he was like twenty and a son of a wealthy farmer in Canada. It’s very weird.” he said, keeping up the conversation.

Just to visit, huh? Laura's lips curved into a slight pout-frown mix, as if she was weighing the words. She didn't think he would hand her over to someone like S.H.E.I.L.D., so Laura doubted he would hand her over to this.... S.M.M.O. either. Still, she wasn't exactly sure that she wanted to go there. She wasn't gonna admit it, but she was scared to face Wolverine - even with Malcolm as backup, she wasn't sure that her 'father' was really into seeing his little she-clone again.
Still.. Mal was right. Wolverine might not have noticed yet - but he would. She gave a little sigh, then nodded gently. "Okay... I guess I could tag along. But if he starts trying to tell me what to do, I'm gone, okay Mal? I'm not one of his X-men, I'm not gonna have him telling me what I can and can't do."
[/b]Her voice was a little... off for her. A touch softer, timid in the face of seeing Wolverine again. Turning her face up, she met Mal's blue eyes with her own bright green ones. "Just... don't leave me there, okay? Please?"[/size] [/center] WORDS!--

Mal found her frowning lips very kissable, and only her talking stopped himself from doing so. ”Understood. I won’t leave you there alone.” he murmured, moving so he was closer to her. He was having a hard time paying attention. Logically he knew it was because he’d just done something that was life shattering and wanted something life affirming, but some part of him didn’t want to get slashed by very nasty claws, so he just sifted slightly. Sadly it made his pants tighter.
He dutiously ignored his more animal half, and kept his hands to himself. He reminded himself to use the larger of his heads, and to leave the very pretty girl alone (not that he wanted to). He smiled a little at her, but it looked more sexy than friendly. ”I doubt we’ll be staying there long tomorrow. I’ve got to figure out what to do with my Therapist Practice, probably shut it down. I don’t need it really. It’s amazing how much money my mom had, and I’ve invested it all so yeah.” he was trying to distract himself, though he found his finger trailing up her arm, and snatched his hand away.

She felt embarrassed a little, feeling like she was begging him like a small child not to be left alone at school. Still, Mal didn't seem to think less of her for it - she gave him a bright smile as he promised not to leave her alone in the base. Strange... Laura didn't like letting people in cause she was frightened it would give people a way to hurt her. Funny, she never noticed that Malcolm had gotten past her guard. It bothered her a little.
His fingers found the bare skin of her arm and she shivered a little, but didn't pull away as he traced the line down the limb. Laura shivered as he pulled his hand away, then looked back at Mal's face. He was trying to talk just to talk... the look in his face read a deeper thing. Normally, she would have told him... something.
Now though; that haunted look in his eyes. He didn't need to be pushed away... whatever happened, whatever he had done had upset him alot more then he was letting on. "Its okay, Mal... I don't bite. You can touch me."
[/b]She knew what she was opening herself up to. He'd made no secrets of his nature and more then she had of hers. She knew the look; she'd seen in before, in the mirror in her own eyes after a brush with death. Something had come close to breaking Malcolm - whether he wanted to admit it or not. Sadly, she was the only one here to collect the bits back up. Hopefully, she didn't screw it up. [/size] [/center] WORDS!--

Mal was quiet when she spoke. Sure she didn’t bite. He delt with wolverine, he had a very good idea how hard she could if she wanted to. That didn’t stop him from wanting her… badly. He closed his eyes, trying to force himself to not touch her. She’d opened it up… but part of him felt as if he might be betraying her trust. He wasn’t sure why he felt that way. Another voice reminded him that she’d said he could touch her.
It didn’t take long for his eyes to open, glittering slightly as he reached out and touched her arm again. He lifted his hand to touch her cheek with his first knuckle, moving slowly, suddenly wanting to savor this. He continued to stroke her arm, eyes roving, though not much more.
Then he trailed the finger up to the side of her face, and the other arm wrapped around her shoulder, pulling her closer. ”If you don’t want this tell me to stop.” his voice was bairly audiable (being that he’d had to fight to get himself to say that. He was seriously hating his second half)

At first, she thought she'd read him wrong. Had she? He froze, almost has if he was waiting for something... for her to push him away, maybe? She remained sitting next to him, watching his face. When his eyes opened, she met the blues again and gave him a smile.
The broken man in front of her bothered her more then she showed. Malcolm was always confident, strong - not like this. The scared from what happened bothered her. She glanced down, watching his hand touch her arm. Lashes closed part way as his knuckles brushed her cheek, her breath hitching a little in her throat because she wasn't used to this.
She wasn't scared of him... strangely, she found it hard to be bothered at all by Mal. But still. It didn't explain this... Laura forced herself to stop over thinking it. His arm looped her shoulders, she scooted with the pull, lifting her chin to look up at his face as he spoke. His words brought a smile to her lips.
As he pulled her in, Laura twisted her hips to settle a little against his, one hand lifting to cup his against her cheek while the other dropped to his thigh. "I think, Blue-eyes, you need to quit giving me a way out when I'm the one offering..."

He found himself analyzing her every move, wanting to remember it for later. Not that he wouldn’t, but this was a deeper thing. And with her close he was smelling her sent, which was not helping his sanity. Then she dropped her hand to his thigh, cupped his face, and twisted her hips all in one movement. That fully distracted him, and her voice gave him promision. Though his only answer was a soft growl. He kissed her, first softly, as if testing the waters, but it wasn’t very long before he deepened the kiss, letting some of his frustration out. Not much, he transmuted it into passion. He some how shrugged off his jacket, and tossed it somewhere. It was a good thing he had no animals.
He leaned back, pulling her with, as he brushed his hand along her torso. He was past thinking, which was blissful for him. He was always thinking, always going. His memory always knew everthing, he’d just learned to fliter. Of course emotions colored everything he did, and he’d remember this later, probably fondly, but for now he wasn’t thinking about anything or anyone but Laura, and figuring out how to get out of his shirt.
